FIA F2 in Barcelona

For round 6 of the championship the FIA Formula 2 championship made its way to the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Because of the removal of the chicane in the final sector the average speed of the circuit in qualifying  increased to around 200 km/h.

In qualifying the field moved pretty close together and the gap between pole position and 22nd position was just 1.2 seconds. Roy Nissany put a good lap together and finished in 16th place. Brad Benavides unfortunately didn’t put everything together in qualifying and finished in 22nd position. But it’s everything to play for in the races.

Just before the sprint race it started to rain heavily and the teams had to mount the wet weather tires on the cars. The race started behind the safety car and Roy Nissany and Brad Benavides kept their cars on track during the difficult conditions at the first few laps. They were moving through the field and Brad made up 7 positions finishing in P15. A few laps before the end Roy made contact with another driver during an overtake attempt. Unfortunately he had to retire from the sprint race.

Because of the collision in the sprint race, Roy received a penalty and had to start the feature race from the last position. This time the clouds held and the race stayed dry. Roy made up a few spots during the race and finished P18. Brad tried an alternative strategy for the feature race, but unfortunately it did not pay out and he crossed the line in 22nd position.

Not really the weekend we wanted but we will never stop pushing to score some points soon!

Like our Formula 3 team the Formula 2 team will hit the track at the Red Bull Ring at the end of June again.
